I recently went through a long and difficult divorce.  When all the dust settled, my kids and I got the house.  I hadn’t been working, I was raising the kids and since I didn’t have a job, I couldn’t afford (to keep) the house.  I wound up working two jobs just to make ends meet.  On top of the financial stress, I didn’t have time to maintain the house because I was too busy working.  I needed to sell it. 

I put it on the market and got no showings.  There were just too many homes for sale in my area and I couldn’t afford to price the house for less than what I owed on it.  Each day went by and I got more discouraged about being able to sell.

I had always rented and liked the convenience and flexibility of it.  When I graduated school and got a job, I started to realize how I was throwing my money away on my rent.  The apartment I was in was really small and I was really getting tired of hearing all the noise from my neighbors.

I was ready to get out of my apartment and start owning and building my equity.  I had seen how it was a buyer’s market and since I knew I wanted to live in Macomb County for a long time, I started to think it would be a good idea to look at buying a house of my own. 

My brother bought a Lombardo Home and he’s been really happy with it.  Every time I go there, I wish I lived there too.  They have a pool and a couple of parks which is awesome because I have a dog and I’m outside a lot.

I went to meet with the salesperson there and when I toured the homes, I couldn’t believe how affordable and huge they were.

I am a single mom and I have 2 children, 6 and 4.  I have been renting a 2 bedroom apartment for about 3 years since I went through a divorce.  The apartment had a monthly rent that I could afford and even though it was small we have managed.  Now that the kids are getting bigger, they needed a yard to play in and room to move around.  They can’t really have friends over because there is no where for them to play.  I never thought I could actually afford a house on my own and I just want to say thanks to Lombardo Homes for making it happen! 

I fell in love with the way the neighborhood was set up and the styles of the homes.  They all looked so nice that I couldn’t wait to move in and meet my neighbors. Our sons finally moved out of the house for good and we figured we should try to downsize now so they couldn’t come back!  We had a 3,500 square foot house and between the yard and the vacuuming we were spending all of our free time keeping up with the maintenance.  We had no time to just relax and enjoy our retirement. 

We found exactly what we wanted at The Retreat but the big obstacle was trying to sell our house.  The market wasn’t good and we had lots of friends who wanted to sell their houses but they didn’t even have them on the market because they new the values had gone down.  It didn’t feel good to think that our house was holding us back from living a better life.

After Bob passed away 5 years ago, my kids had been telling me “Mom, you’ve got to get a smaller place.” I think they worried about me taking care of the house and being alone.  I didn’t even want to think about moving because this had been our home for so long and it was hard to let go.  I realized that I needed a change and a smaller place.  I really wanted a condo.  My daughter, Denise took me to see the condos at The Retreat and they seemed to be exactly like what I was looking for.  They even have a fitness center and walking paths for me so I can be active and get outside.
